01
A 20% federal film credit lands in Congress — with a bonus for independents
Introduced September 24, the Motion Picture, Television and Entertainment Revitalization Act would credit 20% of U.S. labor costs on productions over $1 million shooting 75% of days in the U.S., rising to as much as 30% with bonuses — including for independent productions. It would apply to productions starting after December 31, 2026, and still has to pass.
02
Toronto's first real market moved upstream
TIFF's new market (September 10–16) went beyond premiere pickups into financing, packaging and pre-sales. Copperhead arrived with cast attached before shooting; Roadside Attractions and Vertical took Lauren Miller Rogen's Babies. The earlier the sale, the more your cast, genre and comparables carry the price.
03
Six weeks to AFM
The American Film Market returns to the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles, November 10–15 — where many Toronto conversations close, or don't.
